Gainesville, FL — The Florida Trail Association (FTA) proudly announces the appointment of Sean Amidon as its new Executive Director, effective February 23.
Amidon joins FTA at a pivotal time in the organization’s evolution. Following a leadership transition and strategic restructuring, the Board of Directors selected Amidon to guide the Association into its next chapter of growth, strengthened partnerships, and expanded statewide impact.
“We are truly excited to welcome Sean to the FTA at such a pivotal time of growth and opportunity, created by our outgoing Executive Director, Tisha McCombs,” said Michelle Duncan, Chair of the FTA Board of Directors. “The Board selected Sean based on his demonstrated ability to anticipate emerging needs in the community and implement ongoing strategies to improve membership.”
Amidon brings more than 20 years of leadership experience, including expertise in organizational growth, education, operations, community engagement, and program development. He previously served as Executive Director of the Hands-On Science Center, where he led expansion efforts and increased regional visibility.
“The Florida Trail is one of the most extraordinary assets in our state,” said Amidon. “It connects wild landscapes, rural communities, public lands, and generations of volunteers who have built something lasting. I have deep respect for that legacy and the stewardship that has brought the Trail to where it is today.”
“What excites me most is where we can go from here. We have an opportunity to elevate the Trail’s visibility, strengthen partnerships with land managers and public leaders across Florida, and inspire more people to experience and support this incredible resource. I believe the next chapter for the Florida Trail Association is going to be something truly special.”
Under Amidon’s leadership, FTA will continue advancing its mission to build, maintain, protect, and promote the Florida National Scenic Trail — a continuous corridor stretching more than 1,500 miles across Florida’s diverse ecosystems and supported by thousands of volunteers and partners statewide.
As the Association enters this new chapter, FTA invites supporters, outdoor enthusiasts, and community partners to stay connected, follow along, and become members as new initiatives and opportunities are announced in the months ahead.
