Award-Winning Image of Rare White Morph Reddish Egret Captured at Fort De Soto Park, Florida

FLORIDA – Florida-based wildlife photojournalist Ronen Tivony has been awarded First Place in the Animal Category of the 2025 Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles (PPAGLA) contest for his striking photograph of a rare white morph reddish egret at Fort De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, Florida. The award-winning image depicts a snowy egret chasing the rare white morph reddish egret, one of the most sought-after birds among wildlife photographers and birders, as it clutches a freshly caught fish.

The white morph reddish egret is considered a rare sighting in North America, making Tivony’s photograph a remarkable capture of both unusual bird behavior and exceptional natural drama. Fort De Soto Park, situated on Florida’s Gulf Coast, is one of the premier birding destinations in the United States and a location where Tivony regularly leads wildlife photography workshops.
