Cold Tide, a debut thriller rooted in Amelia Island’s history and atmosphere, is now available on Amazon

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL — April 2026 — Archie Royce, a Fernandina Beach native and debut novelist, has released Cold Tide, a legal thriller set in 1994 Amelia Island, just weeks before the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival draws tens of thousands of visitors to historic downtown Fernandina Beach.

Cold Tide follows Dan Foster, a respected media strategist whose past resurfaces when a long-buried scandal — rooted in a 1978 death on the island’s shores — threatens to unravel his career and reputation as a high-stakes legal case unfolds. Atmospheric, character-driven, and steeped in the textures of coastal Florida, the novel explores justice, silence, and the emotional cost of secrets kept too long in a place where everyone knows your name.

For Royce, the setting is personal. Born in Jacksonville and raised on Amelia Island, he spent summers lifeguarding at Main Beach and listening to courthouse stories in his grandfather’s Centre Street barber shop. “I grew up here,” Royce says. “I know the hush of these streets, the way secrets settle into the sand. Fernandina Beach isn’t just the backdrop — it’s the soul of the book.”

A University of Florida graduate with a background in public relations, Royce spent years advising corporate clients in Minneapolis before returning home to Florida. That insider knowledge of reputation, crisis management, and public perception shapes the moral and professional terrain his protagonist must navigate.
