October, 2025, Miami, FL — Palms Veterinary Service, founded by Dr. Joseph F. Somers, DVM, is redefining pet care in the Miami area through compassionate, concierge-style mobile veterinary services. The practice brings high-quality medical care directly to clients’ homes, specializing in internal medicine, preventive wellness, pain management, and emergency triage for pets across Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Brickell, and surrounding communities.

Dr. Somers earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with honors from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut and pursued additional coursework at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Raised on a farm in upstate New York, Dr. Somers has extensive experience in equine and livestock medicine as well as advanced canine behavior and training.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Somers served as an animal behavior consultant and advisor for the 2009 film A Dog Year, starring Jeff Bridges and adapted from the memoir by Jon Katz. He collaborated with Los Angeles–based production company Birds & Animals Unlimited, supplying and training the Border Collies and sheep featured in the production. Dr. Somers has also trained, demonstrated, and competed in U.S. National and USBCHA-sanctioned sheepdog trials, hosting numerous events at his family’s farm in New York and throughout the Northeast, Midwest, and at the Farm Institute on Martha’s Vineyard.

Now based in Coconut Grove, Dr. Somers continues to share his knowledge through client education, veterinary consulting, and community outreach, while offering personalized, in-home care for dogs and cats throughout the Miami area.
