Tampa Theatre Hosts “Celebrating Muslim Women: A Night of Movies, Music, and Monologues” — Presented by NY/LA Production

TAMPA, FL — November 11 — NY/LA Production, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting Muslim and MENA women in film and media, proudly presents Celebrating Muslim Women: A Night of Movies, Music, and Monologues at the historic Tampa Theatre. This free community event brings together filmmakers, performers, and changemakers for an evening dedicated to amplifying the voices and artistry of Muslim women.

The event will feature an inspiring lineup of dance, spoken word, and short film:

  • Leveled, written and directed by Sara Rangooni, follows a woman’s journey to reclaim her voice and identity within systems determined to silence her — a story of resilience that continues to resonate across the global festival circuit.
  • Clara’s Fruit, produced by Rashad Mubarak, explores the lives of young Muslims navigating identity, belonging, and survival in the American South, capturing the quiet beauty of everyday resistance.
  • I Am From Palestine, an animated short directed by Iman Zawahry, offers a powerful, poetic reflection on heritage, displacement, and pride through the eyes of a child who learns to embrace where she comes from.
  • Sam(ira) Obeid, internationally recognized spoken word performer and educator on intersectionality and resistance.
  • Reham El-Hennawey, a hijabi ballerina whose elegant fusion of faith and artistry challenges stereotypes and celebrates representation.
  • The USF Bulls Dabke Dance Troupe, performing a traditional Levantine dance symbolizing unity and resilience.
  • Zara and Anannya Khan, a Tampa-based South Asian duo blending classical movement and modern hip hop in a celebration of cultural fusion.
  • Iman Zawahry, award-winning filmmaker and professor, director of the animated short I Am From Palestine.
  • Dyma AbuOleim, founder and president of 200 Muslim Women Who Care®, joining a live Q&A panel to discuss Muslim women’s empowerment, storytelling, and community impact.

“Muslim women’s stories deserve not only to be told, but to be centered,” said Nyla Hazratjee, founder of NY/LA Production. “This event is about celebrating those stories—through film, movement, poetry, and community. We’re honored to partner with incredible artists and local organizations who share our vision for representation.”

The evening will include screenings, live performances, and a post-show Q&A exploring the intersection of identity, creativity, and cultural storytelling.
