Sarasota’s Beloved El Greco Café to Return Under Original Family Leadership as El Greco Kitchen & Market

Patti Corcoran, daughter of original owners George and Paulene Soublis, brings back the flavors of their classic family-owned Sarasota restaurant.

SARASOTA, Fla El Greco Cafe, the Soublis family’s Greek restaurant which served as a staple of Sarasota’s Main Street from 1990–2007, is preparing to re-open this spring as El Greco Kitchen & Market, a fast casual version of the original, in a new South Sarasota location. Patti Soublis Corcoran, daughter of the original owners, George and Paulene, is partnering with her nephew Dimitri Syros – whose team is responsible for The Breakfast Company and The Original Hob Nob Drive-In – to bring back the best of their classic Greek eatery.

For Patti and her husband Dr. Joe Corcoran, this is an opportunity to preserve their family’s legacy and a piece of Sarasota history. While welcoming guests in El Greco Café’s downtown dining room at 1592 Main Street, Patti saw first-hand how much her family’s restaurant meant to the Sarasota community. Patti is thrilled to bring the authentic flavors and hospitality of El Greco back to longtime fans of the restaurant and newcomers alike. Renovation has begun and Patti plans to open the restaurant this spring. The new El Greco Kitchen & Market will be located at 4035 Clark Rd, on the corner of Clark and Sawyer Rd.

Founded in 1990, El Greco Café served as a mainstay in Sarasota’s vibrant downtown community for nearly two decades before the Soublis family sold the restaurant in 2007. Often praised for its authentic Greek dishes and wide selection of healthy and flavorful lunch and dinner options, El Greco Café was voted Sarasota’s Best Greek Restaurant 17 years in a row. Patti plans to build on the award-winning work of her mother and father, using her father’s original recipes to recreate the classic Greek flavors beloved by long-time fans, while also introducing some modern menu twists.

El Greco Kitchen & Market’s menu will lean on staple Greek dishes such as gyro platters, souvlaki, Greek salad and avgolemono soup. Patti and Dimitri are also designing the menu around quick service offerings focused on pitas, bowls, platters, and salads, leaning into the healthy and convenient benefits of the high-protein Mediterranean diet. Additionally, El Greco will feature authentic imported Greek ingredients available for retail market purchases.

Patti emphasizes connection to the local community and preservation of her family’s Greek culture as her motivation behind reviving El Greco. When asked about plans for engaging the local community, Patti and Dimitri mentioned the possibility for “Greek Night” events at the restaurant, hinting at more information to come soon.
