Tallahassee Watch Party brings podcast hosts, filmmakers, museum leaders and community together to celebrate Florida’s African American history
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — September 14, 2026 — Culture Keepers of Florida by FAAHPN, the podcast and documentary series highlighting the people, places and stories preserving Florida’s African American heritage, will celebrate its Season 1 Finale and Watch Party on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City of Tallahassee Parks & Recreation Department, 1201 Myers Park Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32301.
The live event will bring together the cast, crew, museum representatives, community leaders and audience members for a behind-the-scenes conversation about the making of the series and the extraordinary history its production team has encountered across Florida.
The event carries special historical significance. It will commemorate what would have been the 169th birthday of John Gilmore Riley, the influential African American educator and civic leader whose home became the John G. Riley Museum & Cultural Center. The celebration also recognizes the 30th anniversary of the founding of the John G. Riley Museum, established by historian, preservationist and community leader Althemese Pemberton Barnes.
The event will be hosted by Denise Powell, producer of Culture Keepers of Florida by FAAHPN and owner of GIFT TV, along with podcast hosts Jayvon Adams, Kristen Kinder and Brianna Williams and members of the production crew.
During the program, the cast and crew will share what they learned while traveling to historic sites, conducting research, listening to interviews and reviewing hours of raw footage documenting the people working to preserve African American history throughout Florida.
“This project has become much more than a podcast or documentary series,” said Powell. “Our cast and crew have had an opportunity to walk into places where history actually happened, listen to the people protecting those stories and discover just how much of Florida’s African American history is waiting to be shared. The Season Finale gives us an opportunity to celebrate the Culture Keepers who make that possible.”
The series is produced for the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network (FAAHPN), a statewide network connecting African American museums, historical organizations and cultural institutions throughout Florida.
Nine episodes from the 15 currently in production have been released, taking viewers into museums, historic communities and cultural sites while introducing the historians, preservationists and community leaders safeguarding these stories for future generations.
Episodes of Culture Keepers of Florida by FAAHPN are available on YouTube, and the podcast can be heard through Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Spotify and RSS podcast platforms. Audiences can also follow Culture Keepers of Florida by FAAHPN on Instagram and TikTok.
