The News-Leader, Florida’s oldest weekly newspaper, is searching for a talented and enterprising writer and reporter to join its award-winning staff in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

The News-Leader is owned by Community Newspaper Inc., an Athens, Ga.-based media enterprise that firmly believes in the value and future of newspapers. Corporate newspapers controlled by venture capitalists and hedge fund managers are shrinking newspaper staffs across the country.

We’re not.

Instead, we’re redoubling our efforts, aiming to expand with new print products and investing in digital infrastructure for the future.

The perfect candidate wants to be a part of that growth. And they want to work in paradise.

The News-Leader is located on Amelia Island, a premier tourist destination known for its bustling downtown (and the accompanying shops and restaurants) and beaches (lots of public access points, by the way). Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are a part of Nassau County, one of the fastest growing counties in Florida. We’re also a short drive to Jacksonville, which boasts all the big-city amenities.

We’re looking for a hard-charging, talented journalist to join our staff. We want someone with a proven ability to write accurate breaking news stories, deeply researched enterprise pieces and well-crafted features.

We also want someone who has a passion for newspapers and journalism. Jobs in this industry aren’t for the faint of heart. We want someone who believes in the power of journalism and desires to help us make the News-Leader the best weekly newspaper in America.

Candidates interested in applying should send a cover letter, 5-7 clips and references to Editor Scott J. Bryan at sjbryan@fbnewsleader.com. No phone calls.
