Reporter in Northeast Florida

The Palatka (FL) Daily News is seeking a reporter to join its news team. You will carry a regular beat and be responsible for a general assignment hard and soft news stories. You should submit clean, fact-checked copy that captures the reader in the first two paragraphs, quickly turn stories to meet daily deadlines as well as develop in-depth features and series.

The Daily News boasts a multi award winning photographer, but reporters may also be called on to take photos. Comfort with posting to social media is required and familiarity with video a plus. Applicants also need to have a creative eye for layout and some familiarity with InDesign.

You will need to live and immerse yourself in the area. Palatka is an historic city with Old Florida charm that lies along the banks of the St. Johns River. The St. Johns runs the length of Putnam County. The county offers some of the best fishing anywhere and ample boating opportunities. Palatka’s downtown is revitalizing, with a wine and craft beer bar that faces the river, a new craft brewery and club under construction, restaurants and more. Palatka is a short drive from Atlantic beaches, professional and college sports, and major airports.

Our compensation and benefits package is fair and competitive. It includes paid vacation after six months, 401K and major medical.

Opening is immediate. Application deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 3. Please send resume, cover letter, 4 to 6 clips showing diverse types of stories reported, and three references to Wayne Smith, editor, Palatka Daily News at wsmith@palatkadailynews.com.
