Osceola News Gazette in Kissimmee, Florida has an immediate opening for an experienced editor for its weekly paper. Requirements: Job applicants must be aggressive and thorough in responding to breaking news. Should have the ability, desire and motivation to research and develop news stories through multiple sources including contacts, social media, scanners and email. They will be responsible for daily communication with police, government officials and agencies. Must develop reliable sources to help in obtaining and confirming information. Need to have broad working knowledge of court and first-responder procedures. Job will include writing, photography, video, website, and social media aspects and pagination. The editor will also answer reader calls and emails, speak with community contacts and perform other duties as assigned.
Strong communication skills and etiquette are required. Must have strong knowledge of legal and ethical parameters for mass media. Must have the ability to work under tight deadlines. This is not an entry-level position. It requires a hands-on leader with a minimum of two years experience in the publishing industry. The editor is required to live in Osceola County.
