Deputy Partnerships Editor

Deputy Partnerships Editor

Location: Washington, DC (or possibly Georgia or Missouri)
Status: Full Time
Program Area: Kaiser Health News

About the Job:

The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), the non-profit health policy analysis, polling and journalism organization, is seeking a Deputy Partnerships Editor to join the staff of Kaiser Health News (KHN), its editorially independent newsroom distributing in-depth coverage of health issues across the country. KHN has a vibrant and talented staff based in Washington, DC, California, Missouri, Colorado and Montana. We are now expanding into the South.

We are seeking a Deputy Partnerships Editor who will help place KHN content nationwide, particularly in news outlets across the South and Midwest. KHN creates original articles, photos, graphics and videos and then distributes them at no cost to other news outlets to republish. Maintaining and expanding its list of editorial partners is key to KHN’s ongoing success — and also that of news outlets that can no longer cover health care as they used to do.

We are hoping to find a self-starter who is meticulous, dogged, great with people and knows the media landscape well. The person will be in charge of establishing, maintaining and growing a diverse regional partnership network in the South and Midwest for republication of KHN stories and identifying possible collaborations with those newsrooms. The Deputy Partnerships Editor will also work with regional and local TV and radio stations to help localize KHN stories and share our reporting with their audiences.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years’ experience in daily journalism and understand and appreciate the intersection of journalism and marketing. Solid reporting and editing instincts are key to this job. They will also have extensive contacts in newsrooms throughout the Midwest and South, as well as in Black media outlets nationwide. A gift for pitching and selling an idea is a plus.

We want someone who wants to be part of an ambitious and fast-growing newsroom. Tell us why you want to work at this great organization and why no one else could do this job better than you could. We’re excited to hear from you.

We are also willing to pay to relocate you, though we’d prefer a person who already has ties to media networks in either the Midwest or the South. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, and we have enviable health insurance and retirement benefits.

More about KHN and KFF:

KHN is a national newsroom that produces in-depth journalism about health issues. With a staff of more than 60 reporters, editors, web producers, and photographers/videographers in DC, Missouri, Colorado, Montana and California, plus dozens more freelance columnists, animators, web developers, photographers, and videographers around the nation, KHN is committed to in-depth reporting on health policy news. Together with Policy Analysis and Polling, KHN is one of the three major operating programs at KFF. KFF is an endowed nonprofit organization providing information on health issues to the nation. KFF serves as a nonpartisan source of facts, information, and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the public. It has no connection with Kaiser Permanente.

KHN provides this coverage on khn.org as well as in partnership with other news organizations, including NPR, The Washington Post, The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, NBC and a host of other national and regional media outlets. In addition to publishing in-depth articles on new developments in the health care system and on national and local health care initiatives and debates, KHN also produces daily briefings summarizing news coverage of health policy. For more than a decade, these reports have provided readers with daily updates on how the media are covering U.S. health care policy.
