Rae Weimer

Weimer is Dean Emeritus of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications and also a veteran newspaper journalist. In the 1920s, 30s and 40s, he was a reporter and editor at newspapers in Illinois, Ohio and New York.

Weimer came to the University of Florida in 1949 to found a journalism school with only three faculty members and a handful of students. He was the schoolÌs director until it grew into a separate college in 1967. He became its first dean and served until mandatory retirement in 1968.

During that time he led the UF College of Journalism and Communications to become one of the major journalism colleges in the nation, with one of the largest number of students and a nationwide reputation for excellence.
