John Knight

Knight was publisher of the Miami Herald from 1937 through 1976. During his 50-year newspaper career, he built the Knight-Ridder newspaper chain into a nationwide organization with daily circulation of 3.2 million in 33 U.S. cities, including dailies in Tallahassee, Bradenton, Boca Raton and Miami.

Knight was a practicing journalist during most of his career and won a Pulitzer prize for his newspaper column, which appeared regularly for 40 years.

Along with his brother James L. Knight, he established the Knight Foundation, another newspaper giant, to encourage continued improvement and innovation in newspapers.
