Before retiring June 30, 2002, Corbin had been active in Florida newspapering since 1974 and in the newspaper business elsewhere from 1958 to 1973. He served as publisher of the Daily News Herald in Punta Gorda from 1974 to 1976. During that time he also was publisher of the weekly Englewood Herald. From 1977 until his retirement, he served the Naples Daily News as vice president and general manager (1977-85), publisher (1985-2002) and president (1986-2002). During that quarter century-plus in Florida, he was active in Rotary, the YMCA, Boy Scouts, youth sports, the Naples/Marco Philharmonic, Collier County Economic Development Council, Florida Press Association, his church and much more. While serving as president of the Florida Press Association, he was personally involved with passing legislation that formed the basis of Florida’s newsprint recycling laws. His passion for improving literacy in Florida has made an impact as he has tirelessly promoted literacy efforts on a local and statewide basis. He also founded theNaples Daily News Marching Band and theNaples Daily News Traditional Jazz Band, and continues to perform with them today. In 2002, he became the first president of the newly revived Florida Press Foundation and continues to actively serve as its president today. He also continues to work as a consultant with the Sun Coast Media Group. He and his wife Donna raised three children in Collier County. Corbin and Donna continue to reside in Naples.
