Carrol Dadisman

Year Inducted: 2009

Carrol Dadisman graduated from the University of Georgia College of Journalism in 1956. During the next 24 years, he advanced rapidly with a number of Georgia newspapers. He went from government reporter to managing editor at his first newspaper, The Augusta Chronicle. He then served as editor of The Marietta Daily Journal, managing editor of the Macon News and executive editor and vice president of The Columbus Ledger and the Columbus Enquirer.

In 1980, he arrived in Florida to be general manager at the Tallahassee Democrat and was named president/publisher a year later.
During his 16-year tenure – second-longest in the newspaper’s history – he oversaw expansion and redesign of the paper, creation of new sections and products and all-time peak circulation levels in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

During much of that same period, Carrol served on numerous Florida Press Association committees and in leadership positions. He was on the board of directors from 1984 through 1989, including terms as vice president (1986-87), president (1987-88) and chairman (1988-89).
