Florida Phoenix: Your Washington Newsroom Connection for Free Federal Coverage

Florida Phoenix: Your Washington Newsroom Connection for Free Federal Coverage

Over the past year, press coverage out of Washington, D.C., has gone through some significant changes. The White House and Pentagon have imposed new restrictions on reporter access. And some major news organizations have scaled back their presence considerably in the nation’s capital.

All of this is happening at a time when we need thorough, accurate reporting more than ever so that we can connect developments at the federal level back to state government action and help keep our local audiences fully informed.

States Newsroom is filling that gap.

That’s why I’m reaching out. I wanted to remind you that Florida Phoenx is a part of States Newsroom, which also has a robust D.C. Bureau providing award-winning coverage each day of the White House, U.S. Congress and key Supreme Court cases – all with an eye for how the day’s news will play out in the states.

We can be a valuable resource to your newsroom.

Now one of the largest news bureaus in Washington, our D.C. Bureau is led by veteran editor Jane Norman, who oversees a staff of six award-winning reporters with deep experience covering the federal government. Let me introduce them to you:

It’s easy to access our daily D.C. coverage through this RSS feed. You can also see our latest D.C. stories here.

In addition, our Stateline team reports and publishes daily stories that take a bigger-picture look at how specific issues are playing out across state lines. Some of those stories may be relevant to your readers too.

All of our content is always free to republish, and we make it as easy as possible for you to access and use. Let us know if we can help.

As you may know already, States Newsroom is the nation’s largest state-focused news organization with more than 200 reporters and editors on the ground in every state capital. In Florida, we have five reporters and editors covering the Legislature and other issues that matter to our local communities. Being part of a larger network that includes our D.C. Bureau and Stateline provides much-needed depth and nuance to our coverage.

In short, think of us as your media partner. You may have other ideas for how we can work together, and we’re interested in exploring new collaborations in Florida.
